ALONG THE SILK ROAD

ALONG THE SILK ROAD

For nearly 2000 years, goods and ideas traversed routes between China and the Mediterranean. Eight highly detailed units (and a culminating challenge activity) draw students through the Silk Road's geography, history, major languages, trade dynamics, belief systems, artistic styles and techniques, musical traditions, and migrations of peoples. Each lesson provides different combinations of handouts, event cards, transparencies, photos, activities (including trading and language-barrier simulations), and essays on famous figures and locales, while furnishing teachers with meticulous instructions, vocabulary, and answer keys. An accompanying 28" x 66" map displays the route in its entirety. The audio CD contains language samples and background on and performances of indigenous musical instruments, while the DVD offers a slide show, more maps, transparency masters, and a video clip. An appendix½ helps tailor the curriculum to younger students. Grades 7–12. Bibliography. Spiralbound. 8" x 11". SPICE. 263 pages. ©2006.SP152
