20TH CENTURY TURNING POINTS—Streaming Version

Focusing on key political, social, scientific, and literary developments, each program in these series offers brief, three- to five-minute snapshots of notable events from the 20th century. Archival photographs and illustrations, maps, and some live-action film footage (usually present-day shots of historic places and some reenactments) accompany clear narration interspersed with readings from primary sources (including many first-person narratives). Individual topics are presented in a stand-alone format rather than as part of a continuous narrative, making the programs ideal for providing quick visual supplements to a lecture or lesson.

62 Mini-Documentaries. Sample topics:

  • 1908, Henry Ford's Model T
  • 1919, Prohibition
  • 1923, Teapot Dome
