AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION

Democracy in Action

This program looks beyond the Bill of Rights to examine the historical background of, reasoning behind, and ramifications of 11 constitutional amendments that deal directly with the democratic process. The amendments are sorted into three groups: voting-rights amendments (the 15th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, and 26th), the "presidential" amendments (the 12th, 22nd, and 25th), and a clutch of amendments concerning elected federal officials (the 17th, 20th, and 27th). Primary source photographs, illustrations, and films, as well as excerpts from the Constitution, dovetail with commentary and insight by constitutional experts from the ACLU and Temple University School of Law. Grades 5–12. Color. 51 min. Cambridge Educational. ©1998.
