JOHN LEWISRevealing interviews with a civil rights icon

JOHN LEWIS

Get In the Way

In a series of revealing interviews, Congressman Lewis tells the gripping tale of his role in the civil rights movement and his belief that to make a difference he needed to "get in the way." His life parallels the history of the movement from the late 1950s when he helped organize student sit-in demonstrations, through his experiences as a Freedom Rider, with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, at the March on Washington, and on the march from Selma to Montgomery. Lewis also reminisces about those who influenced him along the way including Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy, Julian Bond, Andrew Young, and many others. Grades 9 and up. English SDH subtitles. Color and black-and-white. 60 minutes. PBS. ©2017.
