WE THE PEOPLE

Readings and a variety of activities provide students with a solid grounding in the people and issues involved in the creation of the Constitution. Illustrated text, charts, and maps cover events leading to the 1787 convention, provisions in the main document, the Bill of Rights, later amendments, and fun-to-know trivia. Framers of the Constitution are then profiled (by the states they represented) in 46 short biographies with mini-portraits. Vocabulary puzzles (including a word scramble, matching exercise, crossword, word find, and a "Race to the Constitutional Convention" game) test students’ knowledge of key terms. Other features include creative writing and critical thinking activities (samples—telling fact from opinion, creating an amendment, researching facts for debate), guidelines for holding a mock Constitutional Convention, and a review test.
